A Jamaican passenger caught the “spirit” this morning on Cayman Airways flight KX 620 en route to Kingston, Jamaica after a minor mechanical issue.
A video making the rounds on social media caught her in full action as she jumped and yelled “Hallelujah” and “Jesus” repeatedly. Some other passengers could be heard in the background getting into it as well. Several flight attendants can be seen attempting to calm the woman down with a passenger also assisting towards the end. Another passenger can be heard saying that they cannot take her off (the flight) and should just wait until she calms down.
Catching the spirit is something that some Christians believe in. It is a colloquial term meaning that she was feeling the spirit of the holy ghost which apparently can lead some persons to talk in tongues and jump for joy.
A passenger on board was not amused by the situation or the delays caused by her. She said that the passenger was very unruly, “I don't have any issue against someone praying anywhere they wish but this was disruptive and too loud. She had to be removed.” She further explained that her kids were very worried and the real concern was what if this happened mid-flight – who would have assisted then?
Apparently something happened with one of the engines and after taxing off and they had to return to the gate. The passenger further explained,
one male passenger started chanting and praying and was getting louder and louder and then boom she started. The young kids were very scared by seeing this unexpected move.
Cayman Marl Road has been informed that the flight left Cayman 8:15 a.m. instead of it's 7:00 a.m. scheduled time and arrived at 9:15 a.m. We understand the spirited passenger was removed from the flight.
Cayman Airways has been contacted for comment on the situation and this story will be updated once we receive a response from them.
