(CMR) Several teenagers are causing havoc at local resorts and as passengers and victims are warning the public to be on the alert.
Yesterday, Cayman Marl Road received reports that around 1:30 p.m. a 19-year-old male and female duo were being held at the Westin Resort by security guards after they attempted to steal from guests on the beach side of the property.
They are accused of going to the lounge chairs and cabanas and rummaging through guest bags and belongings. The young man had on a Red Sail shirt and one eyewitness described his appearance:
“He was smartly dressed in a Red Sail red shirt like as if he had legitimate business to be around there!”
Westin staff informed CMR that he took a bag and when confronted told the guest that the bag was his. Police were then contacted and they took witness statements and arrested them.
We have confirmed that he does not work with Red Sail and they are not aware of how he could have obtained the shirt.
In a social media post yesterday a resident shared that she had picked up a male and female duo around 7:30 a.m. The male passenger took an iPod out of her son's school bag and put it in his pocket. He was arrested for that incident also. In this case he was also wearing a Red Sail staff shirt.
She wanted to warn people to be careful of picking up strangers who obviously cannot be trusted. It appears that the duo were released by police and then made their way to the beach and then stole from Westin guests.
CMR have reached out to the RCIPS as there have been no reports on either incident.
